ok this post is gonna be a little incoherent, but heck.
the cell had a very interesting discussion today, which culminated in the merging of 2 cell groups for the interim of half a year. now, here's the main thrust of the discussion..
what is it that is NOT keeping our young adults anchored in our church?
i won't go into details and all that, but pastor matt proved patient and understanding, and i came away from the discussion with the knowledge that the young adult congregation is gonna change.
for one, i'm gonna make sure i prepare myself as adequately as possible, so that when future generations of youth transit, i can do all i can to help mentor them and help them stay anchored in church. we've lost far too many youths and almost one generation of young adults in the past, and that's too much to endure in the future if i don't do what i can.
on the drive home, i realised that the rangers style of mentoring is so effective because the older leaders DO LIFE together with the younger leaders. sure, we've sat through our fair share of lessons and trainings, but week in and out, we work together and pray together and sometimes even cried together as we sought God's will and laboured to bring His love to the kids entrusted in our care.
perhaps that's what the young adults need to do now, and rise up to the occasion and touch the lives of our precious youths, before they choose to seek elsewhere for fulfilment.
